Perched on one of the hills of the Lucanian Apennines, there are numerous natural and cultural attractions that make this small medieval village evocative and interesting. Ancient stately buildings, such as Palazzo Ciancio dating back to 1600 and characterised by a splendid Baroque style door, stone portals, alleys that climb among the houses, the remains of the Angevin castle and various churches, are some of the elements that attract visitors to this corner of Basilicata. For nature lovers, Castelgrande offers two great surprises: the Astronomical Observatory, where expert operators illustrate celestial phenomena, and the Park of Colours, with the Butterfly House that houses wonderful butterflies, dedicated to a well-known local botanist and hosting, on an area of about 2 hectares, diverse natural habitats.
