A predominantly agricultural centre, Paterno boasts ancient origins although it became a municipality only in 1973: between the stone age (Eneolithic) and the bronze age, between the fourteenth and eleventh centuries BC, the settlement was inhabited by transhumant shepherds. Among the main places of interest: the Church of San Rocco, the Mother Church of San Giovanni Evangelista, the Church of the Sacred Heartdel Sacro Cuore, the Church of San Bartolomeo, Palazzo Rautis, Palazzo Arco della Volpe and Masseria Navarro.
