Campomaggiore, The Town of Utopia – Tasting in an Oil Mill

Today our guide brings you to Campomaggiore Vecchio, an old deserted village
defined as the “town of utopia” due to the origins of its settlement.
Its founders were challenged by the ambitious vision to establish a town
without poverty. However the dream of making a perfect society where
everybody had the same rights and duties, an utopian project, was early
interrupted by a violent landslide which destroyed everything.
Must-see things: the Baronial Palace; the bell tower of the St. Mary’s Church;
the Casino of Contessa, the summer residence of Rendina family; the
Multimedia Museum of Utopia; the Sculpture Park, several international
artworks located along the streets of the town.
Lunch in a restaurant made with typical products.
In the afternoon we can enjoy a guided tour in an oil mill of the area to learn
about the production chain of the, so called, ‘green gold’. The secret of a
delicious recipe is, indeed, the use of a good extra vergin olive oil. The tour is
followed by a final tasting of company products.
