9 October 2020
|By Michela Calocero
Today our guide brings you to Viggianello to go for a hike in search of
mushrooms through the woods of the Pollino National Park.
Then lunch in a typical restaurant to taste some local dishes made of porcino
mushrooms, of course, but also cold cuts, different kinds of cheese, handmade
pasta, homemade cakes, mixed berries and fig jams.
In the afternoon a guided tour of the old town, where there are several
remains dating back to the Byzantine and Norman domination.
Must-see things: the St. Sebastian Chapel, the Main Church of St. Catherine of
Alessandria, the Norman-Swabian Castle, castello normanno-svevo, residence
of the Emperor Frederick II of Swabia for a short time, as well as many noble
palaces.
