Due to the particular oroghraphy of the territory cycling tracks have different levels of difficulties ranging from low to high. Besides, these tracks have been set in such a way as to pass through the protected areas, the cultural, natural and historical centres of the region – from the Vulture Melfese to the Murgia Materana, from the Gallipoli Cognato and Small Lucanian Dolomites Park to Potenza, up to the Val D’Agri Park and Maratea. Most of the itineraries start from, arrive at or pass through railway stations or bus stations; actually, all the tracks meant for cyclists using their racing or hybrid bicycle start from there. The majority of the tracks cross low traffic roads such as county roads or B roads where you can barely meet anyone. There is nothing better than cycling far from smog soaking up stunning sceneries. Basilicata and the Giro d'Italia
Stages and informations
The Giro d’Italia 2020 stopped in Basilicata with arrival and departure from Matera. The pink caravan started from Castrovillari and crossed the Lucanian side of the Pollino National Park, then skirt the Monte Cotugno dam along the Sinnica, cross the Val d’Agri and reach the Basentana in the lunar scenery of the gullies. From there, cyclists tackled the long climb to the finish in the city of the Sassi.
