Pinacoteca D'Errico in Palazzo San Gervasio

Patrimonio culturale

In 2014, the Pinacoteca D’Errico celebrated its centenary. The Pinacoteca is located in Palazzo San Gervasio, in the rooms chosen by Camillo D’Errico, a noble Lucanian patron and passionate collector, to host his own collection.

The exhibition is divided in three sections, strongly interconnected: the first one boasts some of the most famous works if his collection, masterpieces of the Neapolitan painting tradition dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries; the second includes a significant series of engraved illustrations, mainly dating back to the 19th century, which have been collected over the years by D’Errico; the third section features 31 antique books, valuable ‘jewels’ of an extraordinary cultural heritage.

The incredible value of the artistic treasures held by the Pinacoteca is further enhanced by the archaeological exhibition “I guerrieri di Palazzo” (“the warriors of the Palace”), where several remains found during recent expeditions and other extraordinary artefacts are displayed.

Santa Maria D'Orsoleo - Sant'Arcangelo

Patrimonio culturale

Journey to the Origins of Monasticism. Just 4 kilometres from the town of Sant’Arcangelo, on the Orsoleo hill where silence reigns, the convent of Santa Maria d’Orsoleo, built in the Franciscan era starting from 1474 to become a centre of culture, of education and study, today welcomes a multi-media exhibition, which focuses on historical memory, documents and narratives, evoking the ancient origins of devotions practised in these lands starting from the Byzantine Saints in the 10th-11th centuries. Large images, sound narrations, video installations and scenographic effects will tell the story of the monastery as a gateway to discovering monastic communities and medieval life, but at the same time they will take the visitor on a journey into spirituality understood as poetics of the spirit, as a space of “intimate immensity”, where everyone’s experience finds a home, the “shell” within which to shelter, experiment and find oneself.
Themed guided tours, special openings, events, workshops and activities dedicated to families, children, groups. The museum itinerary offers visitors an extraordinary experience of discovery and wonder, a spiritual journey into the Basilicata of the past and present. Sound narrations, video installations, scenographic effects, holograms and 3D films narrate and evoke the origins, daily life, the living memory of the Franciscan convent and of the devotions practised in these lands from the distant past, even outside opening hours, for groups of at least 10 members, by booking well in advance.

Emperor Frederick II Museum

Patrimonio culturale

In the evening, great big projections on the internal walls of the courtyard of the Lagopesole Castle, the hunting residence of Emperor Frederick II, accompanied by a dynamic and intense narration, take the visitor on a journey through time and through the events of the manor and its protagonists, in an engaging multivision show. The images are superimposed on the walls of the castle, deconstructing and breaking them down at the service of representation, while the voice and face of Remo Girone lend themselves to narrating the great Emperor’s loves and affairs. And to get to know the spirit and culture of the period better, an artistic and multi-media exhibition in the spaces of the Castle invites you to discover Frederick’s epic life. In addition, the path of the narrative museum is enriched with new and exciting attractions, such as a book of about 3 meters in width which by magic becomes a projection screen for a new multimedia story, and becomes accessible thanks to a simultaneous and synchronised translation system in both English and Italian.
