DAY 1: ARRIVAL

Arrival in Matera or the surrounding area. Accommodation in hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 2: CASTLES OF FREDERICK II AND VENOSA, CITY OF HORACE FLACCUS

Breakfast and morning dedicated to visiting the Frederician castle of Melfi, which dominates the spectacular scenery of the ancient medieval town. Its strategic geographical position made it one of Frederick II’s main residences. Lunch in a restaurant. In the afternoon, visit to the city of Venosa (famous for being the birthplace of Quintus Horatius Flaccus), with particular emphasis on the Roman archaeological area, which includes the famous House of Horace and the complex of the Unfinished, begun to be built in Romanesque style in 1135, and part of the Norman Abbey of the Holy Trinity. Dinner and overnight in hotel.

DAY 3: SASSI DI MATERA (EUROPEAN CAPITAL OF CULTURE 2019)

Wake up and breakfast. Morning dedicated to visiting the Sassi of Matera. Lunch in a typical restaurant. Matera is one of the oldest cities in the world and appears to lie on two natural amphitheatres (Sasso Caveoso and Sasso Barisano), with the Civita at its centre. It is a veritable open-air museum, witness to an extraordinary human adventure from the Stone Age to the present day. The natural setting of prestigious films for its biblical landscape, it is now the protagonist of a lively cultural renaissance. In the afternoon the visit continues to the Regional Park of the Rock Churches. Dinner at the hotel and overnight stay.

DAY 4: DOLOMITES LUCANE (THE PLACES OF THE FLIGHT OF THE ANGEL)

Breakfast at the hotel and transfer to the Lucanian Dolomites (stone villages), where we visit Pietrapertosa and Castelmezzano, the sites of the famous Flight of the Angel. Lunch in a restaurant en route.
