L’Aglianico e i Castelli del Vulture

Vulture is an area in the north of Basilicata, rich in artistic and cultural treasures but above all a DOC production area of Aglianico wine. A perfect place to ride, full of ups and downs, and ideal for relaxing surrounded by nature and history.

ITINERARY

DAY 1
Arrival in Venosa and hotel accommodation. After the briefing, we recommend a guided tour of the ancient Roman city, with the archaeological park and the Trinity Church. Overnight.

DAY 2 – THE AGLIANICO VINEYARDS
You cross the vineyards that lead to Palazzo San Gervasio. We go up to Forenza and then return to Venosa through the vineyards of Maschito. Aglianico tasting in a farm.
Distance: 50 Km.
Grade: moderate

DAY 3 – AROUND THE VULTURE
Starting in the direction of Mount Vulture, an extinct volcano surrounded by fertile soil covered with vineyards, you reach Melfi, a city where one of Frederick II’s castles stands out. Inside the splendid archaeological museum. Continue towards the Monticchio Lakes, once the crater of the volcano, and climb up to reach Rionero and Barile, where you can make a wine tasting stop in one of the numerous cellars of Aglianico Doc. On the way back you can stop in Ripacandida to visit the frescoes in the church of San Donato. Return to Venosa and overnight.
