MONTEMURRO: Art, Culture and Cooking
Today our guide brings you to visit an “open-air art gallery”. Montemurro has
become, indeed, a big public art museum due to over 60 artworks made of
multilayer graffito and placed along the streets of the town.
Must-see things: the Graffito School, where we can learn about the origin of
this particular artistic technique and, even, experience with the realization of
a own graffito.
It’s about a technique one of a kind, a mix of materials which are, first, put
together and kneaded and then, once a coloured mortar is created, scratched
in order to have a pictorial graffito that becomes, over the time, a hard
material, as if it is petrified.
Later we organize a guided visit in Leonardo Sinisgalli “Muses House”. In the
residence we can see the most relevant interiors enriched with poetic texts
and biographies, photographs, rare volumes and different objects belonged to
the poet.
At the end of this artistic-cultural tour, we move toward a restored ancient
olive oil mill where we can enjoy a “reinforced” tasting menu consisting of the
most typical products of this area, first of all the extra virgin olive oil, but also
the horseradish and the saffron.
