It was born in the centre of the Bradano Valley and is surrounded, like the rest of the Vulture, by the charm of history. Seat of the oldest abbey of Basilicata, Benedictine and dedicated to Saint Mary dating back to the 9th century, of which the remains are still visible today, boasts a conspicuous archaeological heritage. The famous Tabula Bantina was found right here and the municipality took its name. It is one of the oldest bronze plates dating back to the 2nd century BC and containing engravings in the Oscan language, now preserved in the Archaeological Museum of Naples.
