Seat of the Lucanian Apennine Park, Marsico Nuovo rises on the western side of the Volturino. The village is close to three hills that dominate the Val d’Agri and consists of a series of alleys and steps that alternate between the numerous noble palaces, some of which dating back to the seventeenth century, while today only two turrets remain of the ancient city castle. The Bishop’s palace and the Cathedral constitute an imposing complex that houses numerous works of art and goes alongside the former Convent of San Francesco.
